Selections for Sunday 5th of May 2024

3.00 Newmarket

1 point each way Bague Dor (13/2 Bet365, 4 places or else 6/1 Generally, 4 places)

Bague Dor looks well handicapped and the drying conditions are very much in his favour. The last time he had conditions in his favour he was beaten one length by Trawlerman who is now rated 118. He went on to win the Ebor on his next run. The ground was too soft for him at Doncaster on his final run. He has a good record when fresh and a mark of 91 might still underestimate Bague Dor. He has a record of 121 at Newmarket so he clearly likes the track.

3.40 Newmarket

1 point each way Dance Sequence (5/1 Skybet, 5 places or else 6/1 William Hill, 4 places)

Charlie Appleby and William Buick teamed up to win the 2000 Guineas yesterday and they have a live shout of winning the Fillies equivalent today. She was two from two over 7 furlongs in her Juvenile year both at Newmarket. She ran a satisfactory second to the re-opposing Pretty Crystal on her reappearance here at Newmarket over 7 furlongs. She showed greenness in the finish and will have learnt from the experience. The extra furlong here should help her and she should hit the frame.

1 point each way Porta Fortuna (11/1 Skybet, 5 places or else 12/1 Generally, 4 places)

Donnacha O’ Brien trains Porta Fortuna. She won the 6 furlong Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Cheveley Park Stakes here at Newmarket. She was second in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies over 1 mile and is a battle hardened filly who has proven Group form. She was well held by Fallen Angel when finishing third in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh. The drying ground will be a help to her as she just stays the 1 mile trip.
