1 point each way Involvement (5/1 Betfred, 4 places or else 5/1 Generally, 3 places)
Involvement has proven form on this ground having finished second on his penultimate start at Haydock on soft ground. He then finished seventh of twenty nine in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. He is bred to be suited by this step up in distance and he should at least be competitive here.
2.25 Newmarket
1 point each way Mountain Breeze (5/1 Generally, 4 places)
Heavens Gate might be hard to beat in this but Mountain Breeze is worth an each way bet for trainer Charlie Appleby. She finished almost three lengths behind Heavens Gate in the Albany but that race has proven to be the best form line for this race. It is reported that Mountain Breeze has done very well since Royal Ascot and she’s bred to be better than her last run.
3.00 Newmarket
1 point each way Knightswood (14/1 William Hill/ Betvictor/ Boylesports, 4 places)
The Johnston yard have won three out of the last six renewals of this race. They have three runners in this year’s race and I like the chances of Knightswood ridden by Rossa Ryan. He is a very inconsistent horse and has to leave a poor run at Pontefract on his last start behind him. The handicapper has dropped him 2 lbs for that poor effort and he is just 1 lb higher than when a good second at Haydock on his penultimate start. That was over 1m 4f and the extra 2 furlongs here looks to be a positive for Knightswood. The softer conditions won’t be a problem for him.
