Selections for Sunday 30th of June 2024
2.50 Curragh
1 point each way Big Gossey (11/1 Unibet, 4 places or else 10/1 Generally,, 4 places)
Big Gossey did the service a nice touch last season when winning here over 6 furlongs off a mark of 98 at big odds. He is now back down to that mark and is a course specialist who has now won here five times. He led to the last five yards of the line in this race last year off 2 lbs higher, eventually finishing fourth under 3 lbs claimer Danny Sheehy. He is proven to stay further so won’t mind conditions and Gary Carroll can try and run these rivals into submission from the front.
4.40 Curragh
1 point each way Coeur d’Or (9/2 Bet365/ William Hill/ Betvictor/ Unibet/ Betway, 4 places)
We backed Coeur d’Or last time when he finished sixth at Royal Ascot in the Royal Hunt Cup. That was his best effort so far this year and he should take a step forward from that here. He too will handle any rain that falls as he won a Premier Handicap at Galway on yielding to soft ground. That was off a mark of 92 but he did win off a mark of 97 at the Curragh last August. Now on a mark of 100 he will have to produce a career best but there is no reason to think that that may not be possible.
5.50 Curragh
1 point each way Zoffman (8/1 Bet365/ Paddy power/ Betvictor, 4 places)
Zoffman was second in this race last year to the re-opposing Safecracker. He is 4 lbs better off with that rival this year and comes here on the same mark of 91. He was just denied at Cork on his last run in the Cork Derby, a Premier Handicap over 1m 4f on good ground. The rain that has fallen will suit this horse and he is still on a competitive mark. Colin Keane is onboard and he should give a good account of himself.
