Selections for Saturday 10th of August 2024
1.35 Ascot
1 point each way Badri (9/2 William Hill, 4 places or else 4/1 Generally, 4 places)
Badri has been around the block and had been totally out of form earlier in the season under his former trainer Julie Camacho. A change to his current trainer Michael Herrington sparked some improvement as he finished second of six over 5 furlongs at Hamilton on his latest run. The re-opposing Jordan Electrics won on that occasion but is now 6 lbs worse off with our selection. Badri is a course and distance winner on good ground last October. He is 8 lbs better off now than on that occasion when drawn in stall 6, the same as today. Hopefully he hasn’t got used to his new surroundings yet and is still enthusiastic for the game as he is nicely handicapped.
4.30 Ascot
1 point each way Bopedro (13/2 888 Sports, 4 places or else 13/2 Betvictor/ Ladbrokes, 3 places)
Bless Him is on the radar but I will leave him for now in favour of the David O’ Meara trained Bopedro. He finished a good third of seventeen at York on good ground back in May off a mark of 98. He has been dropped a further 3 lbs for his last three performances, the last which was a satisfactory fifth in the Golden Mile at Goodwood. He won on his next start after the same race last season off a mark of 98 and must hold solid claims today off a mark of 95. He has a good draw in stall 3.
2.25 Haydock
1 point each way Kilt (7/2 Bet365, 4 places or else 10/3 William Hill, 4 places)
3 year olds have won the last four renewals of this race and the handicap debutant Kilt catches the eye for last year’s winning trainer William Haggas who has his string in great form. This well bred son of Kingman has shown considerable promise in his three races so far. He has been gelded since his last run and an opening handicap mark of 87 looks manageable. He caught the eye when winning on debut at Newmarket in May. He wasn’t over extended on that occasion winning under hands and heels. He is the most unexposed of these and is sure to improve past this mark.
5.10 Curragh
1 point each way Secret Magician (11/2 Skybet, 6 places or else 6/1 Bet365/ 888 Sports, 5 places)
Secret Magician bounced back to form on his latest run at Naas over 7 furlongs. Staying on well to win cosily off a mark of 63. The handicapper has put him up 5 lbs to a mark of 68 today but that still leaves him 5 lbs lower than when winning this race last season. I’m sure the Hassetts would have had this race as his main target this season and he should go very close.
