Selections for Saturday 27th of September 2024
1.30 Haydock
1 point each way Earls (11/2 Skybet, 4 places or 11/2 Generally, 3 places)
Earls is 2 lbs higher than when winning a 7 furlong race here at Haydock last April on soft ground. He was second at the Curragh over 1 mile on heavy ground on the run before that win and a combination of a sliding handicap mark, heavy ground and the return to 1 mile would give Earls a good each way shout. Trainer Gavin Cromwell has his string in great form and hopefully Earls can add to his increasing number of winners.
2.40 Haydock
1 point each way Wobwobwob (5/1 Bet365/ Paddy power, 4 places)
Wobwobwob was a non runner yesterday and is another horse who handles softer conditions better than most. He won the Ayr Silver Cup last year off a mark of 87 on good to soft ground over 6 furlongs and won again at Thirsk in May under similar conditions. He is now rated just 1 lb higher than both those wins and has jockey Oisin McSweeney claiming a further 3 lbs.
3.15 Haydock
1 point each way Aberama Gold (9/2 Skybet, 4 places or 9/2 Generally, 3 places)
Aberama Gold has been waiting for this ground and has become seriously well handicapped in the process. His last win was at Doncaster over 5 furlongs on heavy ground last year. That was off a mark of 96 and he has now dropped to a mark of 85. Back on his favoured ground and with Blinkers replacing the visor don’t be surprised if Aberama Gold was to bounce back to form today.
3.40 Newmarket
1 point each way Bopedro (12/1 Skybet, 8 places or 14/1 Generally, 6 places)
Bopedro looks to go two places better having finished third in this race last year off a mark of 102. He has since dropped to a mark of 93 and showed a return to form on his latest start when second of fourteen at Doncaster over 1 mile on good ground. He is ground versatile and has form on all ground so that wouldn’t be of concern and it has paid to be drawn high in this race in the past so drawn in stall 22 looks positive. Newmarket is a course that this horse likes and he should run well carrying 9-0.
1 point each way Look Back Smiling (40/1 Bet365/ Betvictor/ Boylesports/ Coral, 6 places)
The heavier the ground the better for mudlark Look Back Smiling who is not well handicapped but better equipped than most to handle heavy racing conditions. He won the Spring Mile last March on soft ground and was second in the Thirsk Hunt Cup again on soft ground. He had a break since and his comeback run at Ascot over 7 furlongs looked like nothing more than a prep race for today.
