Selections for Saturday 21st of September 2024
2.05 Newbury
1 point each way Ithacas Arrow (10/1 Skybet, 5 places or else 11/1 Generally, 4 places)
The ground is currently soft at Newbury with further rain forecast which will suit Ithacas Arrow who is ground versatile. He was second after a 162 days break at Goodwood on soft ground and improved significantly when easily winning at Chester off a mark of 76. He has been raised 5 lbs to a mark of 81 but is enjoying his racing and could go close again here. The more rain the better for him.
3.15 Newbury
1 point each way Brian (6/1 Skybet, 4 places or else 7/1 Ladbrokes/ Coral, 3 places)
Brian looks a solid each way bet with conditions in his favour. His record on ground softer than good is two from two. The first of those was here as a novice over 6 furlongs while the latter was at Newmarket again over 6 furlongs. He has good early season form when a neck second to Cool Hand Luke who went on to win the Gimcrack at York. He was a big eyecatcher on his last run at Kempton when he met trouble in running before making up a lot of late ground to finish third ¾ a length behind the re-opposing Symbol of Strength.
2.25 Ayr
1 point each way Brooklyn Nine Nine (6/1 Skybet, 7 places or else 13/2 William Hill, 6 places)
Brooklyn Nine Nine looks set to run a big race in the Ayr Silver Cup. He has a great draw in stall 15, right up the middle and it leaves Connor Murtagh room to make a decision on which side to follow. He just failed to catch Woolhampton on his latest start staying on strongly at Ascot over 5 furlongs on soft ground. This step up to 6 furlongs on better ground should be fine and he can hit the frame off a lovely low weight of 9-2.
3.00 Ayr
1 point each way Town And Country (17/2 William Hill, 4 places or else 8/1 Generally, 4 places)
She stepped up on her debut seventh at Naas when winning over 5 furlongs at Navan on good ground. She travelled well that day before quickening and staying on powerfully through the line. Navan is a stiff uphill track and she should handle the return to 6 furlongs fine. Henry De Bromhead has a great record when bringing his horses over to Britain and Jim Crowley is an eye-catching jockey booking.
3.35 Ayr
1 point each way Rohaan (10/1 William Hill, 6 places or else 9/1 Generally, 6 places)
Rohaan has dropped to a handicap mark of 96 having finished seventh in this race last year off a mark of 104. His last run at Ascot showed promise off the same mark as he made up a lot of late ground to finish third, beaten a length. There is always a strong pace in this race and that is crucial for Rohaans chances. He should be there abouts if things fall right for him.
1 point each way Mostabshir (12/1 William Hill/ Bet365/ Betfred, 6 places)
Mostabshir is interesting here back at 6 furlongs and he is nicely drawn in stall 15. He has been running over 7 furlongs and this strongly run 6 furlongs looks ideal. He was an eyecatcher on his latest run at Goodwood in the Stewards’ Cup when fourth of twenty five, beaten just under 2 lengths. That was his first effort over 6 furlongs and he should be more familiar with the faster pace on his second attempt.
