Selections for Saturday 26th of October 2024

1.10 Cheltenham

1 point each way Lord Of Thunder (6/1 Generally, 4 places)

Lord Of Thunder is more about potential than proven form on his Chasing debut but he could have the potential of being better over fences. He won twice over hurdles last season both times at Wincanton and twice on soft ground but trainer Joe Tizzard wouldn’t throw him into a race like this if he didn’t feel he was up to the challenge. With a solid round of jumping he has the ability to go well.

2.20 Cheltenham

1 point each way Some Scope (11/2 Generally, 4 places)

Some Scope is a horse that will enjoy this good ground. He won at Doncaster on good ground last January before finishing second to the re-opposing Does He Know again at Doncaster, this time on soft ground. He finished fourth here on the New course last April back on better ground off a mark of 127. The handicapper has dropped him a 1 lb and he should go well here off a lovely low weight of 10-2.

1 point each way Le Milos 10/1 Skybet, 5 places or 11/1 Generally, 4 places)

I don’t know if Le Milos will win this but he has a great shout of hitting the frame and a t 10/1 that is ok. His last win was in 2022 when he won at Newbury on good ground off a mark of 146. He has dropped to a mark of 147 now and will have ground similar to that when winning at Newbury. He is a nine year old but doesn’t have many miles on the clock and the Skelton yard is hitting form.

2.55 Cheltenham

1 point each way Gowel Road (17/2 Generally, 4 places)

Nigel Twiston-Davies had two winners and two seconds yesterday and has his string in form. He tends to target these early season Cheltenham meetings and Gowel Road would have a competitive chance in this Pertemps Qualifier. His last run of last season was in that race when finishing a creditable sixth. A reproduction of that would see him at least in the top four here. He has run well off a break in the past and hopefully he won’t get outpaced on this faster ground.

2.05 Doncaster

1 point each way Aberama Gold (7/1 Bet365, 5 places or 6/1 Generally, 5 places)

Aberama Gold has dropped to a very nice mark having won this race last year off a mark of 96. That was on heavy ground and hopefully tomorrow’s soft ground will be testing enough. He now has an official rating of 85 carrying a lovely low weight of 8-4 and he really ought to be going close here. If his draw had been higher he would have been a max each way bet but i still feel he should go very close. A strong pace for him would be ideal.
