Selections for Saturday 31st of August 2024
2.40 Chester
1 point each way Yanifer (15/2 William Hill, 4 places or else 6/1 Skybet/ Bet365/ Betvictor, 5 places)
Yanifer is a horse in form having won here over 7 furlongs on his last run from stall 12. He stayed on strongly on that occasion to win by a comfortable length. He was second on his penultimate run at York when beaten by Tolstoy who has won since. Yanifer handles this track, is better drawn in stall 6 and should still be competitive off his revised mark of 93 with Oisin McSweeney claiming 3 lbs.
1 point each way Revich (10/1 Bet365, 5 places or else 9/1 Skybet/ Betvictor, 5 places)
Revich has a row of duck eggs in front of his name hence the reason he has become well handicapped. He was third in this race from stall 10 last year off a mark of 95. He is now 4 lbs lower than that mark but has been unlucky with the draw again in stall 9. He simply loves this track and has run well from wide draws in the past carrying more weight.
4.35 Curragh
1 point each way Shayzann (12/1 Paddy power, 6 places or else 11/1 William Hill, 6 places)
Stable jockey Ben Coen has decided to ride Shayzann and this lightly raced four year old could be still improving. He was third in a strong handicap at Leopardstown on his penultimate start off a mark of 91 and matched that effort with a second at Gowran on his latest start. Off a mark of 93 there is no reason why he can’t go close again.
1 point each way Blues Emperor (14/1 Bet365/ William Hill, 6 places)
Blues Emperor was second in this race last year off a mark of 96. He was just denied by the re-opposing Coeur d’Or. Blues Emperor is now rated 5 lbs lower after failing to place in his four starts this season. He is 8 lbs better off with Coeur d’ Or and is handicapped to be competitive again. Wesley Joyce is onboard and claims 5 lbs. I’m sure local trainer Johnny Murtagh would have targeted this race and hopefully one of these two can get the win.
